About this site
This site exists because a subject surrounded by more stereotype than almost any other deserves a respectful, informative treatment — and rarely gets one online.
A note on language and respect. This site uses the English term many visitors search for, but centres the Thai reality: kathoey and the wider transgender and LGBTQ+ communities of Thailand are people and a culture, not a spectacle. We write about them with the respect that deserves.
Our approach
- Respect first: people and culture, never spectacle; the community's own framing over outsiders' clichés;
- Educational and non-explicit: history, culture, arts, rights and etiquette — the real story, which is richer than the stereotype;
- Honest about complexity: Thailand's genuine acceptance and its real remaining inequalities, both stated plainly;
- Deferential to Thai voices: on Thai experience, Thai people are the authority — we point toward, not over, them.
