About this site

This site exists because a subject surrounded by more stereotype than almost any other deserves a respectful, informative treatment — and rarely gets one online.

A note on language and respect. This site uses the English term many visitors search for, but centres the Thai reality: kathoey and the wider transgender and LGBTQ+ communities of Thailand are people and a culture, not a spectacle. We write about them with the respect that deserves.

Our approach

Respect first: people and culture, never spectacle; the community's own framing over outsiders' clichés;
Educational and non-explicit: history, culture, arts, rights and etiquette — the real story, which is richer than the stereotype;
Honest about complexity: Thailand's genuine acceptance and its real remaining inequalities, both stated plainly;
Deferential to Thai voices: on Thai experience, Thai people are the authority — we point toward, not over, them.

How we source this

This is a cultural-education guide, not a research publication. We don't fabricate statistics, invent individuals to stand in for a whole community, or state precise legal facts where the law is genuinely in flux — see how rights & progress deliberately avoids pinning down a status likely to change, pointing readers to official sources instead. Where we're uncertain, we say so.

What we deliberately avoid

No invented case studies or named individuals standing in for a whole community — cultural contributions and pageants both describe real patterns without profiling specific people;
No explicit or objectifying content, regardless of what search terms bring readers here;
No precise statistics we can't stand behind — where we describe a trend, we call it a trend, not a number.

Why the site is organised this way

Understanding comes before arts, arts come before rights, and rights come before etiquette — deliberately. A visitor who reaches etiquette having already read terminology, history and rights arrives with context; a visitor who starts at etiquette alone gets rules without reasons. The site is built to reward reading more than one page, even though every page also stands alone.
